Dental Bonding

What Is It?

Dental bonding (also called composite laminates) is a cosmetic dental procedure where a tooth-colored composite resin is applied to the surface of a tooth to improve its appearance. It’s sculpted, hardened with a curing light, and polished to blend naturally with your surrounding teeth.

Why Is It Done?

Dental bonding is used to:

  • Repair chipped or cracked teeth

  • Close gaps between teeth

  • Cover discoloration or stains

  • Improve the shape or length of teeth

  • Protect exposed roots in cases of gum recession

  • Offer a quick cosmetic fix compared to veneers or crowns

It is especially popular as a minimally invasive and affordable alternative to ceramic veneers.

How Is It Done?

The procedure is simple and painless in most cases:

  1. Shade Matching

    • Dentist chooses a composite resin color that matches your natural teeth.

  2. Tooth Preparation

    • Very minimal or no enamel removal.

    • Surface is roughened slightly and a conditioning liquid is applied for better adhesion.

  3. Application

    • Soft composite resin is applied and sculpted into shape.

  4. Curing

    • A special curing light hardens the resin.

  5. Finishing

    • The tooth is polished and adjusted for a smooth, natural look.

 How Many Visits Are Required?

  • Usually completed in 1 visit (30–60 minutes per tooth)

  • For multiple teeth or complex reshaping, 2–3 visits may be needed
