Orthodontic Trainer
What is an Ortho Trainer?
An Ortho Trainer (often referred to by brand names like Myobrace or Trainer for Kids) is a soft, removable appliance made of medical-grade silicone or similar materials. It is designed to:
-
Guide erupting teeth into better positions
-
Align the jaws and improve bite
-
Train the tongue and lips to function correctly
-
Reduce or eliminate habits like mouth breathing or thumb sucking

Why is it used?
Ortho Trainers are used in early orthodontic intervention, often between ages 5–12, to:
-Prevent or reduce the severity of malocclusion (bad bite)
-Avoid or shorten the need for braces later
-Correct functional issues like tongue thrusting, open mouth posture, and improper swallowing
-Encourage nasal breathing and proper tongue placement
-Improve facial growth and jaw development
Usage Instructions:
1. Usually worn 1–2 hours a day and overnight while sleeping
2. Requires regular use over months or years for best results
3. May be part of a multi-phase orthodontic treatment plan
Pros:
1. Non-invasive and removable
2. Can reduce or eliminate the need for braces
3. Addresses root causes (habits and muscle function)
4. Encourages natural growth and development
Cons:
-
Requires compliance (kids must wear it regularly)
-
Not a replacement for braces in all cases
-
Works best in early mixed dentition stage (when both baby and adult teeth are present)
